​​​​​1. What will YEA Mentors do?

 

​YEA Mentors will initiate and lead the drop-in sessions during which they will provide friendly, practical guidance on a range of entrepreneurial topics.  Up to 10 Young Entrepreneurs will join any one session.​ On admission as a YEA Mentor, each individual will be asked to select up to five of fifty topics on which they would host a mentoring session.  Our up to date list of mentoring sessions is available here.  Sessions include:

• How is a job different to starting a business

• How do I come up with a business idea?​

• How to segment my customers?​

• How do I promote my business?​

• What does it really mean to be an entrepreneur?​

• Building a recruitment business

2. Am I capable of doing this?

 

The YEA is looking for individuals who have meaningful experience in business, skills in a particular sector, or experience in a particular area of expertise. Many of our YEA Mentors are entrepreneurs in their own right, but many others add value because of their experience in a particular discipline such as marketing, finance or law.   

 

The 50 mentor topics have been created to allow as many of you to support us as possible.

3. What the YEA is looking for in a YEA Mentor?

The YEA is looking for professionals who have a genuine desire to support young people.  We are looking for useful experience, good judgement and a willingness to encourage young people in a positive and responsible way.

4. Why become a mentor?

​

By giving just one hour every couple of months, you can help a young person see business differently or teach them a new skill :

​​

• You may help a child turn a vague idea into something practical.

• You may help them understand customers, pricing, costs or marketing.

• You may help them build confidence, ambition and resilience.

• You may be the first person in business they have ever had the chance to speak to.

 

For many children, entrepreneurship can feel distant or inaccessible. Our aim is to make it feel real, exciting and possible.​

5. How this works

​

- Apply online (takes 60 seconds)

- Successful applicants notified

- Mentors choose up to 5 Mentor Topics (takes 2 minutes)​​

- Mentors select available time sessions on our platform

- Sessions are hosted with Young Entrepreneurs

- Kids provide feedback on the session online

- Mentors provide feedback on the session online

6. Safeguarding 

​

All mentoring will take place within the YEA’s rigorous safeguarding framework and will be designed to be age-appropriate, encouraging and educational.
