At our very first Start Your First Business Bootcamp, we were delighted to welcome Paolo Ben Salmi as one of our guest entrepreneurs.

Paolo shared insights from his entrepreneurial journey, speaking openly about the multiple businesses he has built, the pivots he has navigated, and the social impact that underpins his work. From climate activism to education and publishing, his message to young people was clear: entrepreneurship is not just about starting companies, it’s about creating meaningful change.

Before he had the chance to catch up with us for a quick interview, he spent time inspiring our bootcamp participants with honest reflections on failure, resilience, and purpose-driven leadership.

Here’s what he had to say.

Building Platforms with Purpose

Paolo describes himself as a serial entrepreneur, educator, author, speaker, mentor, and publisher. Across his work in education, publishing, and youth empowerment, he creates platforms and stories that help young people explore curiosity, confidence, leadership, and purpose - while also championing environmental responsibility.

Although his ventures span different sectors, there is a clear common thread running through them all: inspiring curiosity and self-discovery. Whether through storytelling, environmental action, or educational initiatives, Paolo’s work centres on helping people explore who they are and the world around them with confidence and care.

Entrepreneurship in One Word

When asked to describe entrepreneurship in a single word, Paolo chose:

Transformative.

And it’s easy to see why. For Paolo, entrepreneurship is not just about building businesses - it’s about personal growth, mindset shifts, and impact.

Failing Forward

One of the most powerful moments in his interview was his reflection on failure.

The best advice he ever received came from a friend who told him that the key to failure is “failing forward.” Paolo explains that your mindset shapes your reality, and every setback is a lesson pointing you toward growth.

For him, failure is not defeat. It is feedback. A necessary part of progress. When approached with the right mindset, it becomes fuel for growth.

This message resonated strongly with the young people at the bootcamp, many of whom are just beginning to test ideas and explore what entrepreneurship could look like for them.

Lessons from the Journey

Looking back on his early ventures, Paolo reflects that stronger business fundamentals and mentorship earlier on would have accelerated his growth and reduced uncertainty.

If he could start again, he would seek collaboration and mentorship sooner and trust his instincts earlier in the process.

However, he is also clear that the lessons learned through experience shaped who he is today. Growth, after all, rarely comes without challenge.

Motivation and Impact

When asked what motivates him most right now, Paolo’s answer was simple: his family.

They inspire everything he does and remind him why purpose and impact matter.

At the heart of his work lies a belief that everyone - especially young people - deserves the opportunity to discover their potential and feel empowered to make a positive impact.

It is this belief that made him such a powerful voice at our Start Your First Business Bootcamp.

Why This Matters for Young Entrepreneurs

Paolo’s journey reinforces something we see time and time again: entrepreneurship is about much more than profit. It is about confidence. Curiosity. Adaptability. Resilience. And using your ideas to create positive change.

As we continue delivering our bootcamps and programmes, stories like Paolo’s remind young people that there is no single path to success - only the courage to explore, learn, and build.

We are incredibly grateful to Paolo Ben Salmi for sharing his journey with our young entrepreneurs, and we look forward to seeing the impact his message continues to have.
