Meet Luca, a young aspiring entrepreneur who’s turning his passion for aviation into a real business. While still in school and at the ripe age of 14, Luca took part in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy's Basics of Business: Beginner to Boss digital learning series. He used the knowledge he developed during the programme to shape his vision for Vilair, his very own airline concept. In this interview, he shares what inspired his idea, how he balances school with developing his business idea, and the lessons he’s carrying forward from the YEA programme. Whether you’re dreaming big or just getting started, Luca’s journey shows what’s possible when you take the first step.
1. What first got you interested in business and how did Vilair come about? I’ve always loved the idea of creating something on my own and not following a typical job path. The idea for Vilair came from a trip to Korea where I became fascinated by the aviation industry. I noticed a lot of inefficiencies and thought why not create my own airline? I spoke to my dad about it, and that’s when the idea started taking shape. The only issue was I didn't know how to get started and thought I was too young. That's when I came across the YEA which changed my thinking on this.
2. What made you want to explore this idea while still in school?
I figured that starting young will give me time to learn and prepare properly. School keeps me busy, but I still have free time to build something meaningful. Later on, with university and more responsibilities, I might not have that flexibility.
3. What’s one piece of advice from the YEA programme that really helped?
The sessions on finances were a game-changer for me. I hadn’t thought much about the financial side, but learning about things like profit and loss and expense tracking really helped me understand how to make a business work.
4. How did the YEA programme help you develop your business idea and what was the first thing you did once you had your idea?
It made me think about things I hadn't thought about yet. I wrote everything down. It helped me get my thoughts organised and made it easier to share the idea with others. I also spoke to my family and friends for feedback early on, which was super helpful.
5. How has doing the YEA programme helped you overcome initial challenges?
The biggest challenge was that it all felt far away, like something I’d do years from now. But going through the YEA programme reminded me that working now means a stronger foundation later. Every small step now makes the project better in the long run. I'm so glad I have the tools to work on my business now!
6. Why do you think the YEA programme is helpful for young entrepreneurs?
YEA teaches the core skills you need to start a business, but in a way that’s broad and easy to understand. It’s not just theory. Hearing from real entrepreneurs and doing practical activities made it feel real and achievable.
7. What’s next – will you keep working on Vilair?
Definitely. I’ve put so much into Vilair and I really believe in it. Even if it doesn’t go exactly as planned, I want to stay in entrepreneurship, it’s something I’m passionate about and want to keep doing.
8. What would you tell your friends about the Young Entrepreneurs Academy?
I would tell my friends that if they want to start a business it would be a good idea to follow this course. The thing I liked the most was the fact I was always pointed in the right direction in every lesson. I have learnt about how real entrepreneurs function through the 'resident entrepreneurs' section and feel more confident I can make my business idea work.
